Top App Design Agencies — Mobile

Mobile app design agencies

Mobile design carries constraints web never faces. Platform conventions split between iOS and Android, onboarding and permission prompts make or break retention, thumb-reach dictates layout, and a bad call ships until the next store review clears it. The studios below have shipped apps to real users, and each earns its place on genuine mobile craft, not a general portfolio with one app dropped in.

Founding, location, focus, and starting engagement size — the facts that shape a mobile brief. No rankings: a premium consumer studio and a lean boutique are not quoting the same app.

Mission Control

Lean, senior mobile design without the agency overhead.

A small, fully remote senior team that designs apps and digital products for startups and growth-stage companies. It works fast and caps how many clients it takes on at once, so a founder deals with principals rather than a rotating junior bench.

Services
Mobile and product design, UI/UX, design strategy.
Notable work
No public named-client list, so this one is judged on the portfolio directly.
Ideal client
Lean tech teams that want senior mobile-design attention without big-agency overhead.

Services
Mobile app design and development, UX/UI, iOS and Android, product development, digital strategy.

Big Human

A studio that takes an app from idea to launch.

Big Human does mobile product design, development, and branding, working mostly with startups and incubating its own apps over fifteen-plus years. That product background shows in how tightly it scopes a first version rather than over-building it.

Mobile product design, app development, UI/UX, product strategy, branding.
Notable work
The team behind HQ Trivia and Vine, with client work for Whistle, Rockefeller Center, Gemini, and Netflix.
Ideal client
Founders who want a hands-on partner to take an app from idea to launch.

Common questions

Mobile app questions

How much does mobile app design cost? +
Design alone for a defined MVP commonly starts in the tens of thousands. Design and build through to a shipped consumer app more often runs into six figures, and premium consumer work higher. None of these studios publish rates, so approach two or three in parallel to calibrate.
iOS, Android, or both first? +
If budget is tight, ship one platform well rather than two mediocre builds. Most teams launch on the platform their audience actually uses, validate the product, then port to the second.
Native or cross-platform (React Native, Flutter)? +
Native gives the best performance and platform fidelity; cross-platform shares one codebase and can be cheaper to maintain. A studio strong in one is not automatically strong in the other, so ask which they default to and why.
Should design and development come from the same studio? +
For mobile especially, a combined partner removes the handoff where gestures, edge cases, and error states get lost. If you have strong in-house mobile engineers, design-only usually costs less and integrates fine.
How long until the app is in the store? +
Design alone for a scoped MVP is typically six to twelve weeks. Design and build to a first release is more commonly four to nine months, plus App Store and Play review.
How do we check a studio has really shipped mobile apps? +
Look them up in the App Store and Google Play, confirm the apps are live and still updated, and ask which parts of the work the studio owned: design, native engineering, or both.
